Sugiyama School Leader Update
Sugiyama School Leader Update
Dear Sugiyama students and families,
Effective Friday, February 2, 2024, Dr. Joe Powell will be on leave from his position as principal at Alan T. Sugiyama High School.
Looking ahead, Ms. Renee Willette will serve as interim principal at Sugiyama High School. She officially assumes this role on Monday, Feb. 5.
I understand changes such as these can be disruptive. I am confident that Principal Willette will step in and provide effective leadership to maintain daily school operations. Her role as interim school leader is to support students, staff, and families.
Principal Willette brings a wealth of experience in education and administration. She joins the Sugiyama community after many years experience as an educator and school administrator. Most recently, she has spent several years at Rainier Beach High School as an assistant principal. She is eager to help support Alan T. Sugiyama High School’s positive and nurturing environment!
Families and staff should look forward to hearing from Principal Willette very soon as she begins her service at Sugiyama High School.
Thank you for your patience and support during this transitional period. Collectively, we are moving forward collaboratively to ensure the continued success and well-being of our students.
Sincerely,
Katrina M. Hunt
